چکیده

A 34-year-old man was referred to for persistent dyspnea 6 months after a blunt chest trauma with subcutaneous emphysema and bilateral pneu-mothoraces, however, without initial bronchoscopy. The three-dimensional CT reconstruction revealed a stenosis of the intermedius bronchus, confirmed by bronchoscopy and successfully treated by bronchial sleeve resection (Fig. 1). Fig. 1. The arrow shows the stenosis of the intermedius bronchus. The initial aerostasis was resumed by spontaneous entrapment of pulmonary artery into the bronchial tear.

Chest computed tomography with multiplanar reformatted images for diagnosing traumatic bronchial rupture: a case report

INTRODUCTION Unnoticed bronchial injury during the early stage of resuscitation of multiple trauma is not rare and increases mortality and morbidity. METHODS Three-dimensional reconstruction of the airways using a workstation connected to a multidetector chest computed tomography (CT) scanner may change the diagnostic strategy in patients with blunt chest trauma with clinical signs evocative ...

Traumatic bronchial rupture: an unusual cause of tension pneumothorax

Bronchial rupture is a rare and serious complication of blunt chest trauma, which can be easily overlooked on initial evaluation in the emergency room (ER) as the focus of the attending physician is diverted to more obvious external injuries which may not be of much significance. We present one such patient referred to us as a case of unresolved right-sided pneumothorax 2 days after intercostal...

Routine helical computed tomographic evaluation of the mediastinum in high-risk blunt trauma patients.

BACKGROUND The indications and method of evaluation of the mediastinum in blunt deceleration trauma are controversial and vary among centers. Most centers practice a policy of angiographic evaluation only in the presence of an abnormal mediastinum on chest radiography. Routine aortography in the absence of any mediastinal abnormality is not widely practiced. Helical computed tomographic (CT) sc...

A case report: hemothorax caused by rupture of the left atrial appendage

Cardiac rupture is defined as a full-thickness myocardial tear; this injury after blunt chest trauma is rare, and is associated with high mortality. Blunt cardiac rupture typically presents with either cardiac tamponade or massive hemothorax, and is often unrecognized in the context of blunt chest trauma. It is a little known fact that pericardial effusions can decrease due to pericardial lacer...
